Geogrids

Geogrids are high-strength polymer grids with open apertures sized so that aggregate particles push into and lock within the openings. Once that interlock forms, the grid and the fill behave as a composite layer: load applied at the surface spreads across a much wider area rather than punching into soft ground below. The practical effect is a stiffer, stronger platform built from the same materials.

That mechanism supports two families of application. In stabilization, a grid placed at the base of a road, yard or working platform allows a thinner aggregate section, reduces rutting and extends pavement life over variable subgrades. In reinforcement, layers of grid built into an earth structure carry tensile forces the soil cannot, making retaining walls, steepened slopes and embankments possible at geometries that would otherwise fail. Because these structures are permanent, resistance to stretching under sustained load is as important as initial strength.
